Haunted Castle

There are two castles that have been reported to have unnatural activity at twilight and well into the night. They are the Haunted Castles of Equinox. A mystery surrounds these places that not even the most thorough investigator can hope to penetrate. They are places of dark rituals and terrible experiments gone wrong. It may be the first souls to break through the thin veil of life and death walked down these steps as humans never looking back. Such tales can be heard in the local taverns although never has it been confirmed. It would have happened long ago, in the time before the great darkness and none lives yet who can say they managed the feat.

Ghostly wails fill these places and they are believed to be the homes of those lost between life and death. Long abandoned by their original owners, the castles are left in very much the same condition as they were all that time ago. It is as if the ghosts protect these places from falling to ruin or perhaps they merely cast the illusion that it is still intact. As the times have changed and more souls come to rule the night, they cling to these places that never change. It is said a ghost of the past must have a place familiar in order to remain. In a world ever-changing as Equinox, it is perhaps because of these two ancient buildings that the souls may continue to exist here in the living world. Though finding someone foolish or brave enough to destroy the buildings is a task in itself.
