They banded together and forged a new life for themselves refusing to let the Tree Elves win. They stood side by side, warrior and craftsman alike. The Dark Elves each utilized their skills for the benefit of their people. Gone was the playful chatter of a happy group and in its place was silence. Communication rarely took place anymore, only when necessary. A more silent bond developed between them. They could easily read one another’s thoughts and anticipate what was needed before words were spoken. This skill aided them in their daily lives, making an intolerable existence tolerable.
These creatures nestled just inside the cave near the Drow caverns. They never ventured afar. It was a painful lesson brutally beat into them during their time as slaves to Arachnea and then her children, the Drow. The Elves found a useful stone called marble. They used it to build their city, Kor Koeh. They labored long and hard to build a vast city of grimy marble buildings. As time passed by, the Dark Elves began to lose their beauty. Their pointed ears began to droop. Their skin began to show signs of aging and turned a mottled grey. Their once lustrous and straight hair began to split and fall out. Finally, their hair turned a dull shade of grey or darkened to black.
There was nothing beautiful within this city. The Dark Elves missed their above ground homeland. They missed the sun, the air, and the trees. They left the caverns under the cover of night and harvested plants and seedlings along with exotic flowers and fruit. They took vegetables from their brethren’s gardens in secret and planted them deep beneath the earth. The crops failed. Tiny seedlings would begin to grow then wither and die. All that would remain of the failed crops would be the tender sprouts, turned an ash grey much like the people who tended to them. Nothing would grow in such a barren land.
Kalina Bloodrose grew tired of their meager existence. Along with Avariss Kyrrenthia, they traveled through the tunnels searching for that which did not need light and fresh air to grow. They found it. Deep within the caverns of the Drow, a garden that in the night. They stole many things from that garden and transferred it back to their domain. There, deep beneath the black earth, a garden grew and so they prospered.
