It happened quite by accident. A young Fey was traveling far from his home. He traveled the lands in the time of darkness searching for something. No one knows what he wished for that could exist in the dreary darkness or how a being of light and innocence could have withstood the travesties that he did. The young Fey was named Thorn Reedfly. He continued on throughout the dark forest coming upon an act so gruesome that he stood transfixed, unable to move or even to breathe. He watched a cloaked figure descend upon an innocent fawn and begin to steal its life, not through dagger or bow, but through the stealing of blood. He made so small a sound but was heard and the figure turned with blood dripping from its lips. He whirled upon young Thorn and cursed him for eternity. He repeated the curse over and over until it became a chant and ingrained into Thorn’s very soul.
Thorn, then free from whatever paralyses held him in place, ran. The creature of death’s laughter rang throughout the forest and no matter how fast Thorn ran, he could not escape it. As he fled the forest he noticed an immediate change. He stopped at a small pond and gasped. His skin had turned from a beautiful golden hue to a dark molten gold. Everything about him was different, inside and out. Everything he had known was forgotten. His mind, his body, all his thoughts, and feelings were centered on that one life changing event.
In a fit of rage, he disappeared and then for a brief moment it was as if the moon eclipsed and a dark form appeared on the horizon. A wisp appeared dark and foreboding, sparkling of dark magic and evil thoughts. Everywhere Thorn went things died. As he flew over the lands, grass shriveled and turned brown. The flowers bent towards the earth and lost all color. His one moment of foolishness caused much pain and destruction of the innocent. It was then he created the barrier of magic, locking himself away from the outside world within the caverns of the Fey mountain. Thorn kept track of the days and on the anniversary of his loss of innocence he leaves through the protective barrier and fulfills his desire to cause havoc. He turns all that was beautiful into ugliness… and secures the future of the Sidhe, in the taking of innocence.
